Chapter Six: The Evil

Once upon a time, as things usually are, there
was a horrible, rotten demon.

This demon was evil incarnate. He wanted nothing
more than to see people suffer. This demon cared
for nothing and reveled in the destruction and
mischief that he caused. Because we do not know
his name, we shall call him the Green Demon.

One day, the Green Demon happened to look upon
himself in a mirror. He saw wrinkles on his face,
and an old look in his eye. Much to his disdain,
he realized that he was growing old and that soon
he would die. And naturally, after he was dead,
the people would not suffer destruction and mayhem
that he craved.

"Ah, I know." said the Green Demon. "I shall make
a son to do my work for me when I am deceased!"

And so it was. The Green Demon produced a son, who
was formless so that he could change into anything
at will. Because we do not know his name, we shall
call him the White Demon.

"Now then, I must teach you how to wreck mischief
and cause destruction." said the Green Demon to his
son. "Look there! See those children playing yonder?
Change into a fearsome bear and scare them away!"

The White Demon did as he was told. He changed himself
into the most ferocious bear he could think of, and
the children ran away crying.

However, though the White Demon did this, he was
surprised to find that the children were frightened
of him. Though he had just been born, the White Demon
still knew that what he did was malevolent act.

"Father, why must we torment the people? Is that not
an unkind thing to do?"

"Of course it is!" snapped the Green Demon, who still
cared little for anything but himself. "We are demons!
We must cause mayhem and confusion upon the people,
for that is our destiny!"

And so, the White Demon obeyed. Yet, though he caused
such mayhem and confusion, he felt sorry that he did so.
He did not like changing his shape and scaring people
away, nor did he like hurting those his father told him
to pain.

As the Green Demon taught his son how to be Evil, the
White Demon was secretly observing the humans. He
observed how they gave each other gifts, how they laughed
together and danced during festivals. It looked like much
fun, however the White Demon knew that he could never
join in.

You see, the White Demon was a demon. He was evil. And
evil cannot mingle with good without corrupting it.
Therefore, he simply observed.

Then one day, as he was observing the humans, an idea
happenstanced upon the White Demon. Because he had no
form, he could change himself into the form of a man
and perhaps then he could join the humans in their
merriment.

With a poof, he was a man. Soon he entered the village
and he too became a part of their joy. For the first
time in his life, he too received gifts, laughed with
others and danced during festivals. For the first time,
the Evil demon felt happy.

After some time of happiness, the Evil demon decided
to reveal his true shape to the people, thinking to
himself that they would no longer mind him. But when
the people saw him for what he really was, they became
frightened and angry.

"Go away you demon!" they cried, causing the White
Demon to quiver. The White Demon became saddened by
their reaction. He had thought that if he imitated
them long enough, he too could become good. Alas, he
realized that this could never be, for Evil he was,
and Evil he always would.

But, as he came to his home, he found his father the
Green Demon, looking at him even more angrily than the
villagers. You see, the Green Demon had been spying on
his son, and found that he was partaking in all the
things that people enjoyed. This infuriated him, for
demons were never to make people happy, only miserable.

"You are a failure!" he screeched to his son. "What a
fool you are, thinking that you could be like them! Bah,
you are no longer my son you pitiful creature!"

The Green Demon then hurried off to do more mischief
to the people. The White Demon simply sat and cried.
This pitiful creature, born from Evil, was now without
anything. He had no father, no form, and nowhere to go.
The White Demon was a failure, simple as that.

As the White Demon sat and cried, he tried to think of
better times to cheer himself up. But the only times
when he was truly happy were those days celebrating with
the people. It was then that the White Demon realized
what he must do- he must protect the villagers from his
father.

Though he knew they would hate him, and though he knew
that he would never again be happy, the White Demon knew
that if he could not be happy, at least others could.

And so it was that the White Demon battled the Green
Demon. In a fearsome fight lasting three days, the
formless White Demon had managed to become victorious
over his former father. With a cry, he banished his
father to a true and eternal death.

But the White Demon was injured. He had been greatly
hurt in subduing the Green Demon. And so it was that
he took the lowliest form of all- that of a small,
white, puddle on the ground.

The people had seen him for what he had done, and
they gazed upon the white puddle with pity.

"I know that you must hate me." said the White Demon
in his puddle-form. "I tried very hard to be good, I
really did. But alas I could not, for I am and always
will be, Evil."

But this time they did not look upon him with scowls.
Instead, they looked at him with smiles.

"No, it is we who should apologize. Being a demon, we
assumed that you were Evil and that is why we hated you
so. But you have defeated the Green Demon for us, and
for that we are thankful."

"We understand now, White Demon." said the people. "We
now understand that it is in no-one's destiny to be Evil.
Though you were born from evil itself, you tried as
hard as you could to be Good."

"White Demon." said the people "Take on a new form now!
Let this form not be based upon your destiny, but rather
your virtuous heart!"

And so it was that, crying tears of joy, the White Demon
changed forever into a glorious white dove that shone
with brilliant purity upon the land.

And the Evil White Demon was happy.

haha, i love stories like this one, some of the best character's are born from this example

actually that's why i love Disgaea, the only series to take this kinda story and make an inversion of it, only to have the character still end up with simply "grey morality"

also epic demon fights, cue Devil May Cry music and it's a party

this comment is long and pointless.... lets post it anyway!
